The Unique Advantages of a Heat Pump

When was the last time you considered switching to a heat pump heating system? While we think they’re some of the most intuitive and high-efficiency heating solutions on the market, we also like to make sure that customers aren’t buying heat pumps just because they hear their name on the internet. Choosing a new heating system requires a lot of consideration.

That being said, when it comes to heat pumps in Brampton, ON they’re easily a great choice for many homes. Heat pumps rely on electricity to cycle refrigerant from outside your home to the inside, drawing heat from the air as it moves. This provides a lot of unique advantages to homeowners as well as a couple disadvantages when compared to homes that use gas furnaces.

Today, we’d like to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of a heat pump system, and hopefully give you the information that pushes you in the right direction!

Unique Advantages

Heat pumps provide homeowners with a unique way to combat cold temperatures in the Brampton area. If you’re considering having a heat pump installed, take a look at the following advantages to see if this could be the right system for you!

  • Lower operating cost. Heat pumps use electricity to move heat, not create it. That means, unless temperatures get extremely cold, a heat pump will always run more efficiently than a furnace.
  • Versatility. Heat pumps provide heating as well as cooling in the summer, which means you only need this system to provide quality heat and air conditioning throughout the year! As long as you give it two routine maintenance appointments per year, it should run easily all-year-round.
  • Safety. A gas furnace uses natural gas and combustion to provide quality heat. Even though these systems are built for safety, there’s still the possibility of a gas or carbon monoxide leak. With a heat pump, there are no safety concerns whatsoever.

Disadvantages

We would be a pretty terrible HVAC team if we didn’t outline the few disadvantages of heat pumps as well.

  • Higher initial cost. Heat pumps just cost a bit more than furnaces do. While the operating costs might end up evening that out, it can be a deal-breaker for many homeowners on a budget.
  • Inefficient in extreme temperatures. We mentioned earlier that your heat pump might begin to struggle if temperatures drop to extreme numbers. That’s because it’s harder for the pump to draw heat from the air, and you’ll see your energy bill rise.
  • Not every technician knows how to work with one. Heat pumps are absolutely nothing to be trifled with if you’re an amateur trying to install it. You’re going to need a team of professional HVAC technicians if you want your heat pump to work at all.

It could be very possible that none of these disadvantages apply to you. In that case, you might be the perfect candidate to try a heat pump system to have quality heating and cooling year-round.
